STRAWBERRIES
STRAWBERRY plants generally grow 6"-8" tall and 12" across, are shallow-rooted
and prefer a rich well-drained soil with a pH of 6-6.5. Plant with crown set at soil level.
Mulching (pine-needle or straw) reduces the need for weeding.
JUNE BEARERS generally produce a single large crop in spring to early summer
(as early as March in warmer regions such as Southern California and Florida) and
are prolific producers for 3 to 4 weeks.
EVER BEARERS are most productive when summer brings extended daylight hours.
Ever bearers are not as prolific as June bearers but are especially suitable for growers
who wish to harvest a constant supply of berries throughout the summer.
ALLSTAR: June Bearing. Allstar produces a good crop of very large, light colored,
sweet berries. This widely adapted variety has performed consistently well
from the east to central mid-west.
CAMAROSA: June Bearing. This vigorous, high yielding plant produces large to very large
firm fruit with brilliant red interior color.
CARDINAL: June Bearing. Large, very sweet fruit. Bears mid-season, developed especially
for the south. Cardinal has excellent disease resistance.

ripen in late May or early June and just keeps on coming through September.
OZARK BEAUTY: Everbearing. Probably the hardiest of all ever-bearing varieties.
It survives -30 degrees F and will produce runners, blooms and fruit all at
the same time. It has large, firm, bright red fruit with a sweet taste.
QUINAULT: Everbearing. Great tasting, strawberry with excellent performance record for size,
taste and plant growth. It was found to be the most disease free everbearer. Berries up to 2"
in diameter from June till frost. Good for potting as they bear fruit on unrooted runners.
Makes excellent ground cover or border plantings. Will produce fruit in just 4-5 weeks after planting.
SEQUOIA: June bearing. Exceptional sweet taste, very productive and pest resistant.
Popular variety with home gardeners. In areas safe from early frost, Sequoia is the
earliest Spring Crop on the market and keeps bearing fruit several weeks after the
typical Spring Crop is gone.
